TERMS OF THE COMPETITION
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- This Championship is open to male and female amateur golfers who are 18 years old or younger as of July 28, 2023.
- Golfers must have an up-to-date USGA Handicap Index from a NYSGA Member Club (Boys' 18U - 12.0 // Girls' 18U - 22.0)
- Golfers must be either (1) a resident of New York State or (2) an active NYSGA Member. If entering from a public facility, or a club without real estate, the entrant must be a resident of New York. Proof of residency may be required.
ENTRY INFORMATION
- Entries: All players must register online prior to the deadline (see below). Entries by mail or fax will not be accepted.
- Fee: $150.
- Deadline: Entries must be received prior to the deadline (12PM EST on Friday, July 7, 2023). Late entries will not be accepted, regardless of the reason.
- Refund Policy: A portion of the entry fee, based on the schedule below, will be refunded regardless of reason if the NYSGA is notified (315-471-6979 or via email at deb@nysga.org): Prior to Deadline: Entry fee less $20. After the Deadline: Entry fee less $50.
FORMAT, DIVISIONS, & TIES
- Format: The following format (new in 2023) for each division is as follows:
- Boys' & Girls 18U - 54 holes, individual stroke play
- Boys' & Girls 14U - 36 holes, individual stroke play
- Divisions & Courses: There are four division competing in this Championship:
- Girls' 18U (36 players) - Mountain Course (5,850y)
- Girls' 14U (18 players) - Mountain Course (5,226y)
- Boys' 18U (112 players) - Links Course (6,955y)
- Boys' 14U (36 players) - Mountain Course (5,850y)
- Field Selection: Entry into the Boys 18U division uses Priority Based system (see below). Entry for all other divisions are on a first come, first serve basis.
- Age Groups: In addition to competing in the overall Championship, players will also compete within the following age divisions: 12 & Under, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18.
- Schedule: The tentative schedule of events is listed below.
- Tuesday, July 25 // Practice Rounds
- Wednesday, July 26 // Round 1 (18 Holes)
- Thursday, July 27 // Round 2 (18 Holes) - 14U Divisions Finish, Cut in 18U Divisions
- Friday, July 28 // Round 3 (18 Holes)
- Practice Rounds: Must be scheduled via this website, information will be provided once entries close. Do not contact the club.
- Cut: There is a cut after 36 holes (7/27) in each division as follows:
- Girls' 18U - Low 24 & Ties
- Boys' 18U - Low 40 & Ties
- No cut in the Boys & Girls 14U - Ends After 7/27
- Ties: The player with the lowest score after regulation will be the champion. In the event of a tie for the Championship, a sudden-death playoff will be held immediately following play. If there is a tie for the winner in the Age Groups, the tie will be broken using the USGA's method of matching scorecards.
ENTRY PRIORITY (BOYS' 18U)
#1 - Entries meeting the criteria below will be entered into the Championship on a first-come, first-serve basis up until the entry close date or the field is full. Any players registering from this entry priority list after the field is full will be placed on a wait list ordered by their time of entry submission.
- Previous NYS Boys' Junior champions (either age division)
- Any actively ranked player in the USGA/R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR)
- Top 1,000 in Junior Golf Scoreboard
- Top 40 & ties from 2022 NYS Boys' 18U Junior Amateur Championship
- Top 10 & ties from 2022 NYS Boys' 14U Junior Amateur Championship
- Top 10 & ties from the 2023 NYSPHSAA Boys' Golf Championship
- Top 3 & ties (eligible golfers) from the following championships:
- BDGA (Buffalo) Junior Stroke Play Championship (July 5-6)
- CNY Junior PGA Championship Qualifier (June 28-29)
- LIGA (Long Island) Junior Championship (June 21)
- MET (Metropolitan) Junior Championship (July 17-19)
- MET Junior PGA Championship Qualifier (June 26-27)
- NENY Junior PGA Championship Qualifier (June 10-11)
- RDGA (Rochester) Junior Championship (2022)
- SDGA (Syracuse) Junior Classic (July 11-12)
- WNY PGA Junior Championship Qualifier (June 24-25)
- WGA (Westchester) Junior Championship (June 13)
- Qualified For:
- 2023 NYS Men's Amateur Championship
- Most recent USGA Championships (as of July 7, 2023)
- Anyone selected by the NYSGA based on historical tournament accomplishments.
#2 - Any additional available spots and alternates (only for boys ages 15-18) will be filled by:
- #1 - Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking (as of July 7, 2023), then
- #2 - Receipt of entry (first come first served) for boys 15-18 (boys 14U can play up only if they qualify by the Priority Based Entry system).
LAST CHANCE QUALIFIER
There will be no last chance qualifier in 2023. Instead, we will be using the waitlist as an alternate list.
RANKINGS
This Championship is ranked by World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), the AJGA PBE and Junior Golf Scoreboard.
CADDIES. GOLF CARTS, AND PUSH CARTS
- Caddies: The use of a caddie is approved (new) for players in the Boys' & Girls' 18U Junior Championships. Caddies must not be a parent or guardian.
- Golf Cars: Not allowed.
- Manual Push Carts: Permitted if they don't have a seat attachment that is used and they are manual (electric push carts are not approved).
ADVICE IS NOT PERMITTED
Parents, spectators, and/or coaches are not permitted to provide instruction or advice during during Championship rounds. A player may be subject to penalty if they do not stop the offending spectator from providing advice.
INFORMATION & PAIRINGS
Complete Championship details, including information about pairings, starting times, and yardages played, will be emailed to players and posted on this website after entries close.
TEE TIME REQUESTS
The NYSGA will make every effort to accommodate tee time requests, which must be submitted no later than 12PM on Friday, July 7th (click here). All requests are not guaranteed. Pairing requests will not be accepted.

The NYSGA is in the process of finalizing hotel rates - do not contact the host club hotel for rooms until the NYSGA announces the agreement and reservation instructions.

The NYSGA reserves the right to amend any of the conditions, terms, or schedules published for this Championship. The decision of the NYSGA in any matter will be final.
TOP-5 EXEMPT INTO NYS MEN'S AMATEUR
The top-5 players in the NYS Boys' 18U Junior Amateur Championship will earn an exemption into the 2023 NYS Men's Amateur Championship, played at Wykagyl Country Club on August 7-9.
