McGregor Links Country Club is home to one of the Capital Region’s most historic and strategically designed golf courses. Opened in 1921, the course was crafted by renowned Golden Age architect Devereux Emmet, whose portfolio includes Congressional, Garden City, and many of the most celebrated designs of the early 20th century.
At the time of its debut, McGregor Links drew comparisons to National Golf Links of America and Lido—two of the most revered courses in the country—both designed by Charles Blair Macdonald, the father of American golf course architecture. Emmet was given access to over 800 acres of property and personally selected the rolling, sandy terrain on which the course now rests. His routing takes full advantage of the natural topography, incorporating elevation changes, bold green contours, and strategic bunkering to create a layout that is both visually striking and endlessly engaging to play.
Built on exceptionally sandy soil, McGregor drains quickly and plays firm—ideal for encouraging creativity, especially on approach shots and around the greens. The course demands thoughtful strategy but rewards well-executed shots, offering a true test of golf in a classically inspired setting.
Over its century-long history, McGregor Links has hosted numerous NYSGA championships (see below), including the 2011 NYS Boys' & Girls' 18U Junior Amateur Championship. The club provides a fitting stage for the state’s best junior golfers to showcase their talents—and create memories that will last a lifetime.
